About Me

My photo
Folk & Jazz fan, specialising in vinyl restoration. Although I would prefer to only post albums that I have paid for, or those of close friends, I am open to suggestions and offers of rare Folk items that need tender care and restoration, provided the supplier has the right of ownership of the physical item. NOT JUST an MP3 COPY of it. To give you an idea, I am prepared to restore vinyl belonging to another person, IF I receive a decent quality scan of the front, back and any relevant information that comes with the LP, preferably at least 2400 by 2400 quality, (600DPI scans for back) along with the sound files in FLAC format as waves are a bit too large to transfer. Then I will check their suitability for restoration. I try to maintain the requirement for a decent set of scans for each item, where possible, as I feel the music is incomplete without it. Sometimes this is just not possible as a lot of my stock came from broadcasting organisations that had their own heavy card sleeves, with information relevant to their prime function, that of providing the disc-jockies with basic details to pass on to listeners. I do wonder what happened to all the original artwork?

Temporary LOSS of Broadband connection

"OLD NEWS" I will be taking an enforced rest from uploading for a while, there has been a right mess up with the upgrade to a 50 Mbit fibre connection here, my original 20Mbit connection got dismantled and now they say they can only re-connect me to the 50Mbit system when that is restored.

"NEW NEWS"

Internet connection restored AT LAST and it F--L--Y--S like a Hawk... SO watch out for

More Vinyl restoration work....

Well YES... Exactly, though I used stronger language, and to the company service (lack of) department.

However, the outcome of this all is the actual running costs of the 3G modem here in the UK are not really that high compared to what some pay for their broadband connection.
Provided you accept that you are limited to X GB per month (the more you pay, the more you get) and you accept that you may only get up to 3megabits download speed, the service is not really that bad, certainly makes a good backup, and really, apart from the self inflicted upload limit, my normal email & surfing, even windows updates have all gone on almost as normal.

Paul could you investigate what services there are in Australia in particular any "pty's" that serve Tasmania, providing the 3G connection, specially any that provide a monthly account, I think you can probably reason out WHY I would like to know!!
On your trip over here, I believe you used such an item?

Hey, I've sent some advice off line.

HI Paul,
Got it all thanks, will make interesting reading. I cannot reply to your email on my normal mail system as the 3G setup seems to ban port 25 (SMTP) so I am stuck with the GMAIL alternative, which is pretty good as you know...

Upuout,
I do not want to appear ungrateful, but I really feel the sort of people that visit my blog would probably not be interested in the kind of material you offer links to.

You are welcome to direct your visitors here, but I'd prefer to keep my links to material within the gendre's covered on this blog.

Thanks for your comments though, we try...
