About Me

My photo
Folk & Jazz fan, specialising in vinyl restoration. Although I would prefer to only post albums that I have paid for, or those of close friends, I am open to suggestions and offers of rare Folk items that need tender care and restoration, provided the supplier has the right of ownership of the physical item. NOT JUST an MP3 COPY of it. To give you an idea, I am prepared to restore vinyl belonging to another person, IF I receive a decent quality scan of the front, back and any relevant information that comes with the LP, preferably at least 2400 by 2400 quality, (600DPI scans for back) along with the sound files in FLAC format as waves are a bit too large to transfer. Then I will check their suitability for restoration. I try to maintain the requirement for a decent set of scans for each item, where possible, as I feel the music is incomplete without it. Sometimes this is just not possible as a lot of my stock came from broadcasting organisations that had their own heavy card sleeves, with information relevant to their prime function, that of providing the disc-jockies with basic details to pass on to listeners. I do wonder what happened to all the original artwork?

One for the Jazz & Blues Fans: Toots Thielemans & Svend Assmussen "JAM" 1972

This is a superb album, demonstrates what quality was possible on a vinyl album. No restoration needed here, the album was new sealed and unplayed, this rip was done on the second play the first play was used to run the dust bug and remove any detritus from the cellophane sealing, very little in the way of de-clicking was needed.

Recording was done using the Edirol UA1-EX at 48kHz / 24 bit and preserved as a set of FLAC files, these being re-sampled to make the files CD compatible (44.1k) and finally Lame coded to 320k CBR Stereo.

Tracks:

Side A:
1. Sophisticated Lady (Ellington)
2. Mr Nashville (Thielemans)
3. Vem Kan Segla Forutan Vind (Thielemans/Asmussen)
4. Yesterday & To-day (Thielemans)

Side B:
1. The Spirit Feel (Jackson)
2. Denise (Thigpen)
3. Blues on Blues (Thielemans)

Recorded STOCCOLMA 22&23-11-1972

Session Artists:

Toots Thielemans: Harmonica
Svend Asmussen: Violin
Kjell Ohman: Keyboards
Stefan Brolund: Guitar
Red Mitchell: Bass
Ed Thigpen: Drums

win.rar won't open this. It cites possible wrong password (and I copied and pasted the pw) Any ideas on the the problem might be? It runs the extraction process then vanishes the folder and files.

Downloaded and extracted OK here, suggest you re-download it, RAR extracts to a folder Toots_Svend
don't forget the all important CASE in the password?
(Extracted tracks playing now ... lovely!)

tried it and still got the (wrong password?) error. I cut and pasted the pw gonzoTTSA.

Cutting & pasting is sometimes in-accurate, extra spaces can get included, try physically typing in the password.

Another possibility is the keyboard region setting.

I can not offer any other solution, over 30 have downloaded and decoded it, as I have myself.

It worked when I typed rather than cut and paste. Thanks!

Here's a page for something similar, Toots playing with Svend's friend Stephane Grappelli.

Great news, you were begining to worry me for a moment.

Thanks for the link, another nice resource I will add to my links.

I already had the Toots/Grappelli album but only in MP3, what I did NOT have was a good cover picture, now I have one, thanks.

I also have 1958 "Time out for Toots" vinyl if you are a "Toots" fan, let me know, I'll add it to my list of things to restore.

Anything by Toots or Steph or Svend would be welcome indeed.

Glad you liked the link I provided.
