About Me

My photo
Folk & Jazz fan, specialising in vinyl restoration. Although I would prefer to only post albums that I have paid for, or those of close friends, I am open to suggestions and offers of rare Folk items that need tender care and restoration, provided the supplier has the right of ownership of the physical item. NOT JUST an MP3 COPY of it. To give you an idea, I am prepared to restore vinyl belonging to another person, IF I receive a decent quality scan of the front, back and any relevant information that comes with the LP, preferably at least 2400 by 2400 quality, (600DPI scans for back) along with the sound files in FLAC format as waves are a bit too large to transfer. Then I will check their suitability for restoration. I try to maintain the requirement for a decent set of scans for each item, where possible, as I feel the music is incomplete without it. Sometimes this is just not possible as a lot of my stock came from broadcasting organisations that had their own heavy card sleeves, with information relevant to their prime function, that of providing the disc-jockies with basic details to pass on to listeners. I do wonder what happened to all the original artwork?

.
I am afraid there will be some delay in producing any more LP rips due to the health of my life's partner,
She needs nursing care now, until the end of her life so I will not have much time to process material, however I will read mail from time to time and try to respond to comments.

Thank you for your patience.

Update 9 Jan 2012
I am sad at heart to inform all my loyal followers
that my partner died suddenly in hospital after an emergency admission. I have so much to do now, after this is all over I need a break, a holiday away from here to re-charge the mental battery after all the recent stress, however,  fear not I am internet mobile, so will be keeping an eye on the blog from around the World, all is NOT lost.
I assure you, your comments and sympathy are all very much appreciated... I'll be back at normal pace with luck by the middle of 2012,  meanwhile I am here intermittently dealing with the upkeep of mail.

Update July 2012
Something wonderful has happened to me, I must write about it here.... I have found a lovely lady in my village, who like me, lost her partner a while back, we have become companions and are enjoying life together helping each overcome the grief of bereavement, I'm afraid this means, again the attention to the blog will be somewhat reduced but fear not I still have a lot to do music wise that is, so worth keeping an eye on here occasionally.

* * * P L A G I A R I S M * * * Copying work from one blog to another

.
I have recently been made aware that some of the newest LP restorations on here are being copied, re-coded and presented on another blog.

I have no objection to this in principal, provided the original source is suitably credited, what I DO object to is to find
the copies are inferior, recoded to 128k joint stereo and any credits to source and/or ripper have been removed from the MP3 tags.

A lot of work goes into these restorations to produce the best possible quality from the resource, why it has become necessary to present a lower quality version beats me.
If this blatant copying continues I shall in future present
only low quality, low bit rate versions on this blog, leaving the full 320k versions for personal friends only.

Look HERE for another blog, but BEWARE of the low quality.
I spoke with the owner of the blog that had copies of my work, he reported it was offered by a blog user so didn't check it's source, anyway there are no ill feelings, read our comments about the affair, the music is getting propagated even if in a slightly lower quality form than the original.

"TUNDRA" SONGS FROM GREENWICH Greenwich Village 1981

I' was offered a copy of this LP by
a blog watcher, we successfully transfered the music and scans.

From the Greenwich Village label  GVR 218

 Tracks.
Side One

1. Greenwich Park
2. Pretty Maids Of Greenwich
3. The Rambling Sailor
4. Rebellion Of Watt Tyler
5. Admiral Benbow
6. The Greenwich Lovers' Garland

Side Two

1. Homeward Bound
2. The Blackheath Burglar
3. The Jolly Sailor or The Lady Of Greenwich
4. So Handy
5. Jack At Greenwich
6. I'm Going To Leave Her Shallow Brown

Work has been completed on this LP, the rip was not perfect
due to either a worn record or a stylus problem, we have now had a second go at the worse tracks with a new stylus, the finished article is now here just in time for Christmas.

To emphasis the importance of having a good
stylus, which has been positively proved by this exercise to considerably improve the quality of the recovered audio, even if the LP itself is already worn.

Please checkout these samples of one bad track from the inner most recordings on the LP, hear how even the slightest error in tracking on the inner tracks can ruin the sound when a worn stylus is in use. There is still a little distortion even with the new stylus, this is due most likely to the record already being worn or damaged to a degree by its previous owner, or playing.
